valentine cake

I always make something special on Valentine's day and this year I made this heart-shaped beautiful cake to surprise my husband. He loved it very much and even asked me for another one :-)

ingredients :
5 eggs
vanilla
1 cup sugar
1 cup All purpose flour
1 tsp packing powder

1/4 cup corn starch

for filling and frosting:
1/4 cup sugar
vanilla
2 cups heavy whipping cream

8 tablespoons  of pineapple juice

recipe
Preheat oven to 350 degree F
Prepare the filling first by mixing the heavy whipping cream, sugar and vanilla until becomes creamy but do not mix it too much. put it in the refrigerator until you finish the cake.
For the cake :
Line an 8 inch square or round cake pan.
First you have to separate the egg yolk from  egg white.
beat the egg yolk  with an electric mixer with half of the cup sugar and vanilla and mix them for  few minutes until it becomes creamy.
second beat the egg white with the rest of the sugar (half cup) and vanilla mix them as well and blend till creamy and foamy.
add the two mixtures together and beat them by wooden spoon.
Sift flour and baking powder, and then fold lightly into egg mixture.

Spread the batter in the prepared pan.
Bake at 350 degree in the oven for 25-30 minutes. When you smell the cake that means you can check it  (usually after 20 minutes by inserting a fork or knife in the cake and if nothing comes out it is done).

Leave the cake to cool down for about an hour then slice the cake into two layers, place first layer on serving platter, and drizzle about four tablespoon with pineapple juice from the can. Then spread the whipped cream using a spatula (I don't prefer to spread too much of the cream) and  drizzle the second layer with pineapple juice as well with the same quantity.
Cover with whipped cream, and decorate as you wish. Decorate it with strawberry ;-)
